Read the calculation, not only the total
An unexpectedly high Italian bill is not automatically incorrect. Check the billing period, actual or estimated readings, annual consumption, fixed charges, unit price and any catch-up adjustment. A fair comparison must use the same consumption and complete commercial conditions.
Four useful checks
- dates and consumption compared with actual property use;
- fixed or indexed price and the end date of the conditions;
- recurring charges during low-consumption months;
- adjustments, instalments, bonuses and extra services.
