Quick note: Punto Energia is an independent utility, fiber, SIM and eSIM consultant in Italy. We are not the official customer service of any single mobile, energy or telecom brand unless a specific agreement is clearly stated.

First, understand the Italian words

When you move to Italy, the difficult part is often vocabulary. A voltura usually means changing the name on an active utility contract. A subentro usually means reactivating a supply that has been closed. An allaccio is a new connection when the meter or supply is not yet available.

Knowing the difference matters because the documents, timing and costs can change.

Electricity and gas

For electricity, you will often need the POD code from the bill or meter information. For gas, you will often need the PDR code. You may also need identity documents, tax code, address, property details and sometimes previous contract information.

Do not choose only from the monthly estimate. Read fixed costs, variable price, duration, renewal conditions, payment method and whether the offer matches your actual use.

Internet, fiber and mobile

Internet in Italy can be FTTH fiber, FTTC, FWA or mobile-based, depending on the address. Two apartments in the same city can have different coverage, so the address check is essential.

For the first days, an eSIM or mobile plan can keep you connected while home internet is being installed. For a family or remote worker, planning both together prevents gaps.

Documents to prepare

Prepare passport or ID, Italian tax code if available, rental contract or property details, address, previous bills if present, meter codes, email, phone number and bank/payment information.

If you do not speak Italian well, ask someone to check before signing. Energy and telecom contracts are normal administrative things, but small misunderstandings can become annoying later.
